Clay-Rhynes Eye clinic welcomed Dr. Matthiew Hoogland in July 2016 as a resident Optometric Physician. Dr. Hoogland was born and raised on a farm in northwest Iowa. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Dordt College and went on to complete his Doctorate at the Pacific University College of Optometry located in Forest Grove, Oregon. While at Pacific, he was granted the Dean’s Merit Award, served as a board member of both the AMIGOS Eye Care and Fellowship of Christian Optometrists clubs, and graduated summa cum laude with distinction from the university.

Dr. Hoogland served his clinical externships at the Veteran’s Affairs Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Salem, Oregon, at the United States Air Force Academy’s 10th Medical Group in Colorado Springs, Jesen Optometrists PLLC in Grinnell, Iowa, and at Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute in Olympia, Washington. He has also served as part of two medical mission trips to El Salvador and Peru.

Dr. Hoogland enjoys being active, hiking, music, movies, and seeking to serve God in all aspects of life.
